Players try to snare a kicked ball in their boleadoras
The team who first snares the ball must attack, the other, defend
The team who wraps the snared ball around a 7' end post wins a point
Then the game restarts
A game begins with one team kicking (serving) at the other half of the pitch (for good play, the kick should be high and not too deep). Once the ball clears the center line, all players can move
Strategy can be divided into 4 main plays:
Low balls
High balls
Far balls
Near balls
Equipment consists of 2 boleadoras per player. Each 'bolas' for short, can be made of simple cheap rope and lashed on sandbags (2 round, over 1 meter apart). In that sense, it is a pretty cheap sport to aspire to and a lot of fun. The football may be any old cheap ball lying around that's not too light.
I manufactured a less dangerous, lighter boleadoras using 3 tennis balls, a basketball net and tent rope. I had to learn 2 knots -a bowline and a 'watermelon' knot:
Fouls:
A boleadoras may not be thrown at a player at or over knee level
A boleadoras may not be thrown at a ball at or under head level
Lasso Ball is not a contact sport. No player contact is allowed within reason
